Aurora, Illinois

The city of Aurora is located in the northeast region of Illinois and is the second most populated city in the state with a population of over 171,000 (second only to Chicago). While Aurora is typically considered part of Kane County (all of downtown Aurora is in Kane), parts of the city limits are also in DuPage County, Will County and Kendall County. The Fox River runs through Aurora and the regions of the city are named in accordance with where they lie in comparison to the river.

Aurora is home to several colleges, including Rasmussen College, two branches of Waubonsee Community College, and Aurora University. The city is home to the Paramount Theatre, which is listed on the Nation Historic Buildings Registry. Aurora was nicknamed "The City of Lights" after becoming one of the first cities to use a completely electric street lighting system. This lighting system was implemented in the late 1800s and the nickname has stuck ever since.
