Scott J. Richard has been a litigation associate at Levin & Perconti since 2010. He has played an instrumental role in a number of personal injury and wrongful death cases for injured clients and their families. Scott and Partner Steve Levin recently settled a nursing home negligence case against a North Shore nursing home for $915,000. He also obtained a $625,000 nursing home settlement in a case against a Schaumburg facility, a $325,000 settlement in a ManorCare nursing home case, and a $300,000 nursing home pressure sore settlement.
Scott is working on several high-profile nursing home cases, including a lawsuit against ManorCare Health Services in Hinsdale, IL for the wrongful death of a 74-year-old nursing home resident who suffered severe dehydration as a result of overmedication. Scott is also representing the family of an older man who fell and sustained a severe brain injury as a result of an improperly designed sidewalk ramp at an adult day care facility.
In addition to nursing home cases, Scott works on all types of personal injury, product liability, motor vehicle accident and medical malpractice matters.
Scott graduated from the Chicago-Kent Law School in 2008, earning the Dean’s Certificate for Community Service. During law school, Scott was a member of the Chicago-Kent Law Review and was an editor of the Seventh Circuit Review. As editor, he published “Familia Interruptus: The Seventh Circuit’s Application of the Substantive Due Process Right of Familial Relations.” He was admitted to the Illinois State Bar Association and Northern District of Illinois on November 6, 2008.
Following law school, Scott worked as an associate at a small commercial litigation firm focusing on real estate, contract, and complex litigation. In 2009, he worked as Assistant Campaign Manager and Legal Counsel for a congressional campaign, concentrating on campaign finance compliance and election law.
Along with his work at Levin & Perconti, Scott serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Lawyer Chapter of The American Constitution Society and is the organization’s Director of Programming. He is also a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Chicago Bar Association.
Scott graduated cum laude from Hamilton College in 1999, where he double majored in Philosophy and History. In 2001, Scott received his Master’s from The Divinity School of the University of Chicago.
