Aperion Care Toluca
When we make the difficult decision to transition the care of our aging loved ones over to a nursing home or healthcare center, we expect that they will be treated with respect and dignity. We want them to have a positive, comfortable experience, whether recovering from a hospital stay or in long term residential care.
What many people don’t know is that just as the need for nursing home care is on the rise, nursing home neglect and abuse is as well. Millions of cases of nursing home neglect or abuse are reported each year, with many more going unreported due to fear or an inability to articulate the problem.
Intentionally low or minimally qualified (lowest paid) staffing is a major contributor to nursing home neglect. With not enough highly-skilled practitioners on staff, the quality of care will inevitably be lowered, and it could be your loved one that suffers.
Aperion Care is a large corporate healthcare network with nursing homes and healthcare facilities in Illinois and around the Midwest. Many of their facilities are rated at below average, if not well below average, by Medicare.gov for their staffing levels. While it’s true many of their facilities are rated average to above average overall, staffing numbers that are trending lower will ultimately result in poor care.
At Levin & Perconti, we have made it our mission to bring the facts about these poorly performing nursing homes to light, and fight for victims of neglect and abuse in Illinois nursing homes. We continually research and review public records for nursing home care violations, and share them so that you may be a more informed advocate for your loved one.

What You Should Look For
The signs of nursing home abuse vary greatly and can often take different forms. While you may think of abuse as primarily causing obvious, intentional, physical pain or injury, there are many different ways a nursing home resident may fall victim to abuse or negligence.
Unexplained marks and bruises may be most obvious, but also be aware of weight loss, withdrawal from activities, generally unkempt appearance, bed sores, unexplained infections among others. Recognizing these signs is a critical part of ensuring your loved one is in a safe nursing home environment.
Our attorneys have seen cases covering a wide variety of abuse and neglect matters.

Not only were they so professional but also so caring and thoughtful. It was very difficult going over the facts in our mother's case but they were so compassionate and understanding and allowed us to be with them every step of the way. We were able to sit in on the depositions and we were really able to see how hard they worked on our behalf.
