Nursing Home Abuse Arlington Heights, Illinois
In 2012, the Chicago Tribune reported the shocking story of an elderly woman who filed a fifty-thousand dollar lawsuit against a nursing home in Arlington Heights, IL after the nursing home allowed fifty-seven maggots to grow in her ear. The ninety-year-old woman Catherine McCann is also an Alzheimer’s patient who requires a nurse aid to perform routine personal care.
According to the lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court, On September 16, a nurse at the home was caring for McCann when a maggot was spotted moving in the patient’s ear, and immediately rushed her to the hospital. Testimony provided by McCann’s daughter reveals that she “watched as the larvae of flies crawled out of her mother’s left ear as the maggots were being removed.” Henry Phillip Gruss, the attorney who filed the lawsuit for the family, said the maggots were sent to a lab and determined to be about three days old. McCann’s lawyers went forward with the lawsuit alleging that the Evanston nursing home had neglected “a reasonable standard of professional care.”

Testimonials
Not only were they so professional but also so caring and thoughtful. It was very difficult going over the facts in our mother's case but they were so compassionate and understanding and allowed us to be with them every step of the way. We were able to sit in on the depositions and we were really able to see how hard they worked on our behalf.
