What Is a Bedsores or Pressure Ulcer Nursing Home Case Typically Worth?

Often times, after we enter into an attorney-client relationship with our clients, we have to have a discussion about what the client feels would be a fair and proper result in terms of monetary damages, because that’s all we can sue for in Illinois is monetary damages. We sit with the client and try to evaluate a case. Some lawyers say, “What is a pressure ulcer case worth?” I would say it depends on the facts and circumstances: How neglectful were they? How did it happen? What was the pain? What was the suffering? How did it affect your loved one? Did it result in just injuries, horrible injuries, or death? How big it was? How disfiguring it was? So, there’s no really good answer. It is worth a substantial amount of money, in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions. But any lawyer who could say to you, “I know what a pressure ulcer case is worth,” there’s no such thing as a pressure ulcer case; there are thousands of different types of injuries and deaths that occur because of pressure ulcers.
