Real-Life Example of a Group Home (CILA) Negligence Claim

One case that still stays with us involved a 55-year-old man who needed constant supervision due to a known choking risk. But on the day of the incident, there was only one staff member left to watch 16 residents during dinner. He was left unsupervised for just a moment, but long enough to choke despite emergency intervention. He was left brain-dead and passed away days later.

His family was devastated, knowing this was preventable. While nothing can erase their pain or bring him back, we were fortunate enough to help his family secure a settlement. They were then able to focus on healing. Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated case. We’ve seen too many group homes fail.
