There is a concept known as variability, and if we were to look at a tracing together, if we were to look at what the heart rate looks like, we can see wavy lines.
We can see the heart rate changing from one beat to the next, depending upon how the heart rate changes from one beat to the next.
Does it go up and down 2 beats per?
Minute, does it go up or down 5 beats per minute?
We might call it normal variability.
We might call it exaggerated variability.
We might even look at it and say it looks absent.
All of those categories, those features have significance.
They provide information about potentially how the baby is tolerating the intrauterine environment.
